Melatonin and anti-aging

Melatonin is a natural anti-aging hormone secreted by the pineal gland, and has been found to be a safe and effective sleep aid with no side effects. Melatonin has been found in recent studies to be one of the most powerful antioxidants ever discovered. Melatonin improves the immune function by stimulating shrinking thymus glands, and appears to be the body’s natural defense against breast cancer.

Many age-related ailments such as hypertension and heart disease may be linked with low melatonin levels.  Furthermore, those with low melatonin levels may be at a higher risk for certain types of cancer.  Melatonin is also recommended as an anti-aging weapon for people who are over 40.

Current studies show that melatonin can be beneficial in treating children who have sleep disorders associated with autism, epilepsy, Down’s Syndrome and cerebral palsy.
