The Health Benefits of Herbs

Thursday, November 13th, 2008

Herbs are a gift from nature. They include leaves, bark, berries, roots, gums, seeds, stems and flowers. They have been used for thousands of years to help maintain good health.

Since the dawn of time, people have turned to plants for medicine. For more than a million years our ancestors have lived with herbs. They cooked with them, healed with them, scented their bodies and sanctified their prayers with them. In fact, until this century, plant medicine, mingled with faith and luck, was just about the only medicine. What is grape seed extract?

Grape Seed extract, or GSE is an extract from the seeds of grapes. The seeds left over from the production of wine or juice are harvested, ground and extracted. They have a high content of compounds known as OPC’s (oligomeric proanthocyanidins).  OPC’s are found in virtually all plants, and they have been declared to be nontoxic, non-mutagenic, non-carcinogenic, and free of side effects, according to a review by German researcher Professor Peter Rohdewald.  OPC increases the structural strength of weakened blood vessels, it is also one of the most potent antioxidants known.  Grape Seed Extract is one of the least expensive ways to get your daily dose of OPC’s.

Testosterone and Men’s Health

Friday, November 7th, 2008

Testosterone is responsible for the development of the male body from the androgynous embryo, which will otherwise develop into the female form. If the testosterone receptors in the fetus are not working, or insensitive to the hormone, the development of the normal features of the male body will be incomplete or abnormal, or an intersex human will grow. If the hormone doesn’t make its reappearance at the time of puberty, the male body will not develop secondary sexual characteristics such as a larger penis, beard and body hair, a deeper voice, and a male sexual drive. If the hormone doesn’t flow around a boy’s blood steam adequately; his musculature will fail to develop, as it should. Only the presence of testosterone in his blood will let him know of his maleness through spontaneous erections.
